Britney Spears Says She'll Never Do Music Again, Writes Songs for Fun

I will never work with music again!” Spears, 42, posted on Instagram on Wednesday, January 3. “I write for fun or for others!” There is much about me that individuals who have read my book may not know. In two years, I've composed over 20 songs for others.

In 2016, Spears released Glory, her last album. She now works as a “ghostwriter” for other musicians and “enjoys it that way.” The singer condemned reports that her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, was distributed “illegally” without her consent, calling it “far from the truth

This pop singer has taken charge of her life since her 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021. Jamie Spears, Britney's father, became her personal and financial conservator in 2008.

Britney began lobbying for conservatorship termination in 2021, stating that Jamie, 71, and co-conservator Jodi Montgomery, who took over in 2019, had misused their roles.

The Woman in Me, released in October 2023, chronicled Britney's rise to fame and conservatorship. Britney writes in the book that she knew “[she] had been acting wild” and partying during the height of her early 2000s success, but she didn't believe her family should respond so strongly.

Nothing I did justified their treating me like a bank robber. Nothing that warranted upending my life, she said. I went from partying to being a monk. Security guards witnessed me steal packed med packets. My iPhone has parental controls. Everything was monitored. Everything.”

She said that strict control prompted her to write regularly and frankly on social media. After her conservatorship ended, Britney has posted dances for her fans, seemingly calling out ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, sharing memories with her sons, and revealing her life as a single woman after Sam Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023.

I know many don't understand why I adore photographing nude or new outfit photos, she added. "But I think if they'd been photographed thousands of times, prodded and posed for other people's approval, they'd understand that I enjoy posing the way I feel sexy and taking my own picture, doing whatever I want with it."
